Commuting Workforce Data, 2026 FAM Tour, and More!
Outbound Labor Analysis
Many of you may know that we have been on a quest to find more information about our outbound commuting workforce. Around 122,000 local residents commute out for work. This not only represents a strain on local infrastructure but also on our friends and neighbors who spend up to 45 days (that's right, days) a year in their cars, and a burden for local employers trying to attract a skilled workforce.

So, a couple of years ago, we set out to tackle this problem. We dove into the data to see if we could find out more about these commuters. Knowing more about them- the industries they work in, their skill sets, and their wages- is critical information that assists in our ability to show potential new businesses that we have the talent they need. Knowing that they're there isn't enough.

We were able to learn a lot that we didn't know before. We found out, down to the census tract level, where they were commuting to. This told us largely what industries they worked in, with healthcare being a significant one. But we still didn't know exactly their skills or wages.

We reached out to firms all across the country to find the missing information we needed, and no one could tell us more than what we found...but we kept asking. We finally found a firm that wanted to take on this challenge, and this month, after several months of work, they delivered us a report on exactly what we needed. How many people in the industries that we're trying to attract are leaving our communities every day, how much are they making, and where are they going.

We'll now be able to share this data with potential new employers, site selectors, and our current employers who are trying to attract workforce to quit their commute.

TLDR: We've got exciting new data, and we'll be sharing it all at our September board meeting.
2026 EDC FAM Tour
Each year, our familiarization "FAM" Tour is our most exciting event. We bring in industry-specific site selectors from across the country to tour the region and learn why this is the best place in California to do business.

This tour has garnered multiple project inquiries that would not have come our way otherwise. There is no better way to market our region to the people working these projects than to have them here in person.

That is why your sponsorship is so important...and it happens to be the only way to get an invite to this event. We purposely keep the tour intimate so that the site selectors can build relationships with the people who can get projects done here.
